Peel Ports and wind giant Vestas in Sheerness land option agreement

For Immediate Release - 11 May, 2011

Peel Ports today (May 11) revealed that it had signed an option agreement giving the world's leading wind turbine manufacturer Vestas exclusive rights to a large area of land at Port of Sheerness in Kent.

The agreement allows Vestas to build a fully-integrated wind turbine manufacturing and installation facility to serve the UK and European offshore market.

The facility would mean substantial investment, and result in significant job creation.

Peel Ports Medway's managing director Paul Kavanagh said: "We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone with Vestas, resulting in a fantastic opportunity for the Port and town of Sheerness. This facility would bring a very significant number of jobs to an area which desperately needs employment.

"The Peel Ports Group is delighted to be involved with what is a low carbon, low emission industry, and one that will help the UK Government meet its Green targets."
